"Colorful Portraits of a Lost Hope" - feb-mar2025

About
Photographer Mateus Alvarez, also known as Mateus na Diagonal, was born in 2005 and currently lives and studies in Lisbon. He finished secondary school with a degree in Science and Technology and is currently attending the Higher Nationals Diploma course in Photography at the School of Technology, Innovation and Creation - ETIC, in Lisbon. He had his first contact with photography around the age of 16, when he was able to borrow a camera. Since then, Mateus has been exploring and refining his aesthetic sense in photographic practice. Throughout his career, he has developed commercial and volunteer projects with the intention of gaining experience, such as studio and outdoor sessions and sessions for the Focinhos e Bigodes association. He took part as a photographer in the 2024 edition of the Rock In Rio Festival - in partnership with ETIC - and in the same year showed his work at the DÍNAMO group exhibition in Lisbon, also organized by ETIC. Since 2024, he has set out to re-establish activity in the photographic laboratory at Clínica da Juventude, a space visited by Mateus, who hopes that in the future he will be able to give it back its didactic and therapeutic function. The main lines of research in the photographer's work are based on the question of representation, specifically self-portraiture and self-representation.
